Timo Kreuser – composer, conductor & theatre-maker
Timo Kreuser studied both Conducting in Munich, Dresden and in postgraduate studies at the Academy of Music „Hanns Eisler“ in Berlin with Christian Ehwald, and Choir Conducting in Munich and Dresden with Hans Christoph Rademann and Michael Gläser. 2006-2008 he was a scholarship student of the ABSOLUTE ACADEMY of Absolute Ensemble NYC and Kristjan Järvi and had a fellowship in the Akademie Musiktheater heute (2007 – 2009) of Deutsche Bank Stiftung.

As composer he focuses on the possibilities of musical and performative intermingling and the specification and development of artistic expression of musicians and electronics. In particular he equips electronic media with an expanded range of performative possibilities and visual and performative characteristics (robot-performer, performative robot-sculptures). His compositions for ensembles and soloists, like FIGURA Ensemble, Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop, Tora Augestad, Olof Boman and Peaches, are performed in festivals and venues cross europe like ULTIMA (Oslo), NORDLICHTER Biennale (Berlin), Grand Theatre Luxembourg, Hellenic Festival Athens, Théâtre National De Bretagne Rennes etc.. Upcoming commissions contain performative media-concerts (SCREAMS for Tora Augestad & Camilla Barrat-Due), solo works (Nils Ostendorf), ensemble pieces (FIGURA Ensemble), symbiosis of electroacoustic music, dance and media (…why would you gaze on the dance of SHULAMMITE as on the dance of two armies… for Mia Habib and Cunning & Astonishing HAM with Ida-Elisabeth Larsen [DK]), and music theatre (VOX CLAMANTIS…the murders & obsessions of Carlo Gesualdo), with THE TRACKWORKERS).

The osculation points of performative & visual arts with contemporary music in his work and him aiming for a new approach in contemporary music theatre, led him to found the international artist joint venture and performance company THE TRACKWORKERS, which artistic director he has been ever since. THE TRACKWORKERS performed at Grand Theatre Luxembourg, Hellenic Festival Athens, Opera Frankfurt, etc..

As conductor Timo Kreuser frequently performs at festivals like Musikfest Bremen, Biennale Bern, Maerzmusik and conducted chamber opera productions at Semperoper, Komische Oper, Staatsschauspiel Dresden, Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, as well as contemporary music theatre like Leo Dick’s Kann Heidi brauchen, was es gelernt hat at Biennale Bern and Music Theater Now / ITI / Radial System V and Lucia Ronchetti’s Der Sonne entgegen at Maerzmusik 2010 Berlin. He was commissioned for music production and sound direction for several projects at Volksbuehne, Schaubuehne, HAU, Salzburger Festspiele, Nordwind Festival and the Venice Biennale. In 2009 he was ‘Conductor in Residence’ at the Koster Festivalen in Strömstad, Sweden.

Furthermore Timo Kreuser is the musical director of the festival choir of ALPINE MUSIC FESTIVAL Kitzbühel (since 2006), the vocal ensemble PHØNIX16 (since 2009). http://www.phoenix16.net/

His relation to contemporary forms of theatre is represented in his frequent participation in projects and productions of/with artists like Christoph Schlingensief, Frank Castorf, Luk Perceval, Jonathan Meese, Peaches, Joseph Bierbichler, Sebastian Baumgarten, Vegard Vinge/ Ida Müller and Thomas Ostermeier.

He consulted projects for the german arts council (Kulturstiftung des Bundes) and was guest lecturer by the Academi for Scenekunst, Fredrikstad (NO).
